I use this as warm-ups to get students talking, or as discussion prompts. Task cards can be used in a variety of ways! Some ideas are included below:

Ways to Use Task Cards in the Classroom

As Warm-ups at the beginning of the period. Students write their responses in journals.

As journal or discussion prompts.

As Exit Ticket questions.

Split students into small groups and ask them to discuss one of the cards.

Split students into small groups and ask them to script out the scenario and the resolution; then perform in front of class.

With Jenga: number the blocks. Each student takes turns drawing blocks. Another student finds the correct card and reads it for the first student to answer.

As assessment, at the end of a unit.

NOTE: If using in pairs/small group: discussing the situation as a large group at the end helps bring dimension to suggested resolutions.

Your friend, Angie, stops in to visit you.

The manager won’t be in for another hour.

What would you do? What could you say?"
